Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi) is one of the world’s leading innovation ecosystem with large and complete R&D infrastructure to support translational research to drive Thailand’s economy toward new industry with innovation.


The EECi site at Wangchan Valley, Rayong on state highway 344 (Banbung-Klaeng) eastern of Thailand, covers about 3,500 rai under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The EECi site at Wangchan Valley covers about 3000 rai (480 hectares). It is occupied by the Kamnoetvidya Science Academy (KVIS), the Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC), and the Wangchan Reforestation Project. Together, they cover about 1000 rai, leaving about 2000 rai (320 hectares) to be developed by the Ministry of Science and Technology and PTT Public Company Limited. It will concentrate on two categories of technology and innovation which are (1) ARIPOLIS, the center for research and innovation in automation, robotics and intelligent systems, and (2) BIOPOLIS, the center for research and innovation in biotechnology.

The Wangchan Valley area will be equipped with national’s science, technology and innovation infrastructures to support research, development and innovation activities of community members of EECi. The facilities include R&D rental space, startups and innovation center, national quality infrastructure, and translational research infrastructure such as pilot plant, demonstration plant, living lab, etc. Moreover, Wangchan Valley will have residential areas, meeting facilities, a fitness center, sustainable green spaces, hotels and other facilities, including international schools and bilingual schools to meet the needs of both Thai and foreign experts. These will be available to privately-sector people as well as other target groups, to create Thailand’s leading venue for innovation development.

Major distinctive aspects of the area:
  1. It is surrounded by more than 30 industrial estates in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
  2. It is close to modern transportation systems, including:
    • Motorways from Pattaya to Bangkok and from Laem Chabang to Nakhon Ratchasima;
    • High-speed railway from Rayong to Bangkok;
    • U-Tapao International Airport;
    • Ports at Laem Chabang and Chuk Samet.
  3. It is close to tourism centers and areas growing major industrial crops.
