Vision and Mission

The EECi is developed with the ultimate goal to enhancing the area of Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to be main location for innovation creation and commercialization. Under the management of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Science and Technology, EECi carry out the vision to become “a leading innovation ecosystem in Southeast Asia on which research and innovation are translated into sustainable regional economic development and societal well-being”. Therefore, EECi’s 6 missions toward its vision are:

  1. To be hub for innovative research and development for all sectors and to be the key translational research infrastructure. There will be an establishment of regulatory sandboxes to support testing of innovation with empirical evidence for further regulatory adjustment.
  2. To be center for testing and evaluation in the EEC to enhance quality of Thailand’s manufacturing products to meet international standard and to overcome the non-tariff barriers of trading parties. This will boost Thailand’s capabilities in setting country standards for emerging innovation developed locally.
  3. To be hub for technology transferring from both local and international to industrial sectors through technology demonstration, technology licensing, and other relevance mechanisms. At the same time, to enhance technology absorption capabilities which will enable the industries to be able to modify, improve, and optimize for advancement of the technology. EECi will act as innovation service provider and system integrator by inducing government’s direct and indirect supporting mechanisms as well as crating local market base.
  4. To be center of science, technology, and innovation human resources development to support economic transformation from production factor-driven and efficiency-driven to become innovation-driven economy.
  5. To be hub of innovation clusters to serve the target industries of the country by creating network between innovation developers and innovation users within- and across-industries; locally and internationally. The mechanisms, include industrial consortium; technology transfer, extend, and integration; innovation matching, and so forth. According to the principle of open innovation, this will fasten the process of technology commercialization and reduce risk and cost of technology development, and also creating link between the private sector, educational and research institutes, and government organizations, or the “triple helix” concept and extend to “quadruple helix” by involving people in local communities.
  6. To promote and increase number of startups, and also strengthen capability of technology and innovation service providers to support the growth of the Eastern Economic Corridor in the future.

Basic principle of the EECi is to develop innovation zone which integrate various field of technologies aiming to create innovation that support advancement of the target industries. This innovation zone will be hub of innovators, specialist, with complete innovation ecosystem that encourage invention, transfer and commercialization of the invention. Comprehensive innovation ecosystem is developed under various aspects including Open Innovation, and a working integration between private sector, educational and research institutes, and government organizations under the Triple Helix Model and Quadruple Model concept to jointly create innovation and commercialization of the invention.

  1. To create and retain high skilled workforce of Thailand, and also attract high skilled workforce in to the EECi or other part of the country to increase the proportion of number of R&D researchers per population up to the same level as those countries with innovation driven economy.
  2. To be center for allocation of research and innovation budget that conform to the target industries of EECi. Apply the Open Innovation paradigm which will maximize the efficiency of research and innovation investment by embrace the innovation from external parties and sharing knowledge and innovation with others for further development through multiple channels. This crucial concept will enhance Thailand capabilities to fasten innovation and increase return on research and innovation investment. The country will, therefore, have clear investment direction for research and innovation infrastructure, and mass development of R&D researchers and innovators.
  3. To be the major science and technology infrastructure readiness both to provide solutions and to upgrade quality of manufacturing products by offering testing, evaluation, and standardization services. The industries will also get access to high-valued equipment which not worth for investment for use within one organization. While the R&D researchers and innovators will be able to create innovation continually.

The innovation zone is a community of R&D researchers and large innovation, which good quality of life that harmonize with life style of R&D researchers and innovator are necessity to serve such community.
